Best Western Hotels If you’ve never stayed in a Best Western Hotel in outside the United States, you’re going to be pleasantly surprised. The properties where I’ve stayed have been boutique hotels with a unique flair, very often right in the center of town and/or in historic districts. It’s nice at the end of the day to be able to converse in English with the staff at the front desk. I always book my travel at the Best Western web site where I can find deals, discounts and special offers on hotel reservations worldwide.
Choice Hotels I like the Choice Hotels chain because of their excellent balance of amenities and price. I use their hotels for both business and leisure travel. Choice Hotels® can be found at over 5,000 locations open and under development around the world. I encourage you to research hotels at your destination and book your travel online.
Days Inn While the amenities at the Days Inn hotels tend to be simpler than most business hotels, if the locations are suitable for your visit, I’d definitely check out the Days Inn properties. Be sure to visit their web site for availability and best rates.
eBags eBags.com is an excellent place to find luggage in nearly every brand you can imagine. I love to buy collapsible tote bags and hand baggage that I can tuck into my suitcase for times when I bring too much home from my trip. The eBags Outlet has a fabulous return policy, so there’s no excuse not to order and try something that looks good online.
Four Points by Sheraton The Four Points by Sheraton hotel group has an excellent combination of price and amenities for business travelers. The FourPoints.com website will also let you search for other Starwood properties in one site.
Go Card &
USA Destinations
Some of the biggest business destinations in the USA (Chicago, San Francisco, Orlando, etc.) are also lucky enough to have a Go Card program that lets you buy one discount card and see multiple attractions. If you've got a spare day in one of these locations, you can see a whole lot for one price using these cards.
Lands' End I’ve been using Lands’ End luggage for several years now, and I’ve been very impressed with their commitment to quality AND their amazing guarantee. I know that I’m hard on my luggage and it’s taken a beating. On those rare occasions when something has broken, I’ve sent my luggage back for replacement, no questions asked. I’d highly recommend their products to you.
Magellan's The Magellan’s web site is entirely devoted to travel accessories, and it’s my favorite place to shop for travel-related items. Magellan’s also has a wonderful online guide to help you to easily find plug adapters for equipment that can operate on multiple electrical frequencies. If you travel as much as I do, check out Magellan’s Online Catalog.
Maps.com I recently discovered this amazing resource for travel maps, wall maps, and digital delivery of map information. Maps.com offers prompt delivery of maps of all sorts, and I recommend you use them to locate maps for your travels.
Marriott Hotels I probably spend more time in Marriott Hotels than any other single hotel chain. There are a wide variety of properties to choose from: Marriott, Renaissance, Courtyard by Marriott, and many more. The Marriott properties consistently have the amenities business travelers need, as well as an excellent rewards program. There are Marriott properties in several categories. throughout Europe.
Netflix.com I never travel without bringing movies to watch while on the road, including my Netflix movies. I've been a Netflix user since they opened for business, and I wouldn't rent DVDs any other way.
Radisson Hotels Radisson has an impressive list of countries in which they have properties. Generally these are priced mid-range, and the hotels are comfortable and well-appointed. The Radisson.com web site has good descriptions of their hotel properties and amenities.
Ramada Worldwide The hotels in the Ramada® chain have a combination of price and amenities make these hotels an attractive option for business travelers.
Rail Europe I’ve been using Rail Europe and their web site for over 10 years, and they’ve consistently offered me the best service. They have an excellent website that makes it possible for you to book your travel entirely online, along with plenty of helpful tips to make your rail travel an enjoyable experience.
TripAdvisor If you decide to select a hotel that is NOT in a hotel chain listed previously, then I strongly suggest you investigate the hotel you're considering by reading about it on TripAdvisor.com. I like TripAdvisor.com because the ratings there are contributed by ordinary travelers; you’ll find the reviewers to be frank and specific in their comments.
USA Today USA TODAY is unquestionably my favorite newspaper. When I board my plane heading to Europe, that’s the paper I ask to see, and I read it cover to cover. It’s a great way to stay informed on events in North America while you’re out of the country.
